To show/ describe an activity a period of time in the past ( untuk menunjuk atau menjelaskan sebuah kegiatan di waktu lampau).

a.(+) S + was + V1-ing + O = He, She, It
S+were + V1-ing+ O = They, We, You

(- ) S+ Was / were+not+ V-Ing + O
(?) Was / Were + S + V1-ing + O ?

Contoh :
1. (+) They were cleaning up the house yesterday.
(-) They were not cleaning up the house yesterday.
(?) Were they cleaning up the house yesterday?

2. (+) she was buying a bag in supermarket yesterday
(-) She was not buying a bag in supermarket yesterday.
(?) was she buying a bag in supermarket yesterday?


b. Using “When”
(+) S +Was/were+ V1-ing +O When S + V2.
(-) S+ Was/Were+ Not+ V1-ing+ O When S + V2
(-) Was/were+ S + V1-ing +O When S+ V2

Contoh:
(+) They were cleaning up the house yesterday When I came
(-) They were not cleaning up the house yesterday When I came
(?) Were they cleaning up the house yesterday When I Came?


c. Using “ While”
(+) S + was/were+ V1-ing +O While S + was/were+V1-ing +O

(-)S + was/were + Not+ V1-ing +O While S + was/were+V1-ing +O

(?) Was/were+ V1-ing + O+ While S + was/were+V1-ing +O

Contoh : (+) Naning was washing dishes while her mother was cooking.
(-)Naning was not washing dishes while her mother was cooking
(?) was Naning washing dishes while her mother was cooking?
